MW Coastal Goods | Connecticut Business
If you haven't heard of MW Coastal Goods before, the MW stands for Mike and Wendy and you guessed it - their shop is home to the cutest coastal goods around! A little snapshot right from their website about their inspiration: "Mike's interest in woodworking and love of fishing, combined with Wendy's professional art background and passion for design, is reflected in their signature coastal style."
Their official business adventure began back in 2012 and expanded to this unique shop space a little over a year ago. When you first step into the store it's hard to imagine it was ever anything other than an adorable coastal boutique; however, I had the pleasure of being around and watching the space come to life as they transformed it from a garage into the cute and inviting storefront it is today - the beautiful combination of her style and design and his woodworking and craftsmanship on display.
They are passionate about the local area and also about supporting other small businesses. Their heart for animals resulted in a corner dedicated to Huckleberry, their beloved lab that passed in February 2017. Fast forward to August 2018 when we both adopted puppies around the same time and bonded over Archie and Hooper's spontaneous playdates. MW was the first place I went to find Archie a new leash appropriate for his debut in a multitude of photoshoots (oh, the life of a dog with a photographer mom ;-D).
The shop located at Noank Shipyard is not the only place you can find their beautifully crafted product; you can also see some of their items in shops in downtown Mystic, Connecticut as well as displayed in hotels and online stores. Though, if you're ever in the area I highly recommend making it to Noank as you're sure to receive some sloppy kisses from Hooper and enjoy a delightful chat with Wendy on the dock.
And to all the couples out there in the midst of wedding planning: MW Coastal Goods is the perfect place to pick out fabulous bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts. From buoy shavers, bar glasses, flasks, and bottle openers for the men to tumblers, wine glasses, coasters, and wine stoppers for the ladies - if you're getting married at one of the many amazing local coastal venues this shop is a great place to search for items sure to wow your friends and family.
Birthday celebrations after going through a global pandemic feel a little bit different. We’ve always had good reason to surround ourselves by those closest to us - our village - but after over a year of staying away from family and friends for the safety of all, coming together just feels a little bit sweeter, am I right?
When Becky and I first talked, I immediately got a sense for her beautiful and fun personality. You know when you meet someone and you leave the conversation thinking DANG, this person is just so full of light, I feel a little bit brighter? That’s Becky through-and-through. She’s genuine, kind, and loves her people. Throughout the pandemic, living in the urban area of Stamford, Connecticut, she would purchase a ticket frequently to sail on one of the Public Schooner Sails and hit the water leaving the city and building and confinement behind just for a couple of hours. Everything she told me indicated that the water is her place for calm and she joked that she thinks she’ll own a boat before she owns a house. And I love that, #priorities. Her dream was to gather her friends and family for a sail together to celebrate her 30th birthday. Having grown up sailing, I appreciated knowing that Becky feels a calling to the water and I couldn’t wait to help her celebrate and capture so many amazing memories after such a long year.
