Ireland Cliffs of Moher Classic & Romantic Elopement Inspiration

Doolin & Cliffs of Moher, County Clare

Excited to say that today we are visiting where I exist in my daydreams - Ireland! The last entry I shared about the Emerald Isle showcased the incredible autumnal editorial at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin and today we are adventuring over to the west coast to give you a taste of Doolin and the general County Clare area and Atlantic coastline, including the spectacular and cinematic marvel of the world - The Cliffs of Moher. The Cliffs span about 9 miles (or 14 kilometers depending of your system of measurement). I must say, throughout my life I’ve been known for being a little bit of an adrenaline seeker - rock climbing, skiing, general adventuring - I’m usually in it for going fast and going all in. That being said, on this particular trip with two kids and a husband back at home I was eager to return to, I can honestly say the Cliffs are every bit inspiring as they are terrifying in all of the best ways.

Y’all. There are definitely some parts of walking the Cliffs of Moher that remind you just how tiny we all are in comparison to the big wide world around us. And I’ll cut to the end of my experience. The very reality that I am sitting here writing this means that I made it home safely and the wonders of the cliffs live to be told and relived often in my mind. But would I have taken my one and four year old here on a misty, windy day and walked the same amount of cliff landscape? Absolutely not. What can I say, I’m a romantic and a realist.

Onward. Every bit of the design of this Ireland elopement day accented the desire of two people to flee from the overwhelm of the urban environment to seek solace amongst the daring elements of nature. I can hardly think of a better place to demonstrate the grandness of one’s love story than the Cliffs of Moher. Standing on the edge of this breathtaking scenery is sure to evoke all kinds of emotion for anyone, but standing there with your soon to be spouse speaking the words and vows that will bind you together forever? Complete magic.

While our day at the castle was regal and elegant, our time spent on the lush coastline was romantic in all of its own ways. I’m going to write as if while reading this you aren’t sitting in Ireland with a deep daily understanding of the truth of the landscape, but instead I’ll write to the people who have not yet had the pleasure of traveling to Ireland. When people use the word lush to describe the grass it’s because there really isn’t any other word to convey the actual lushness that is the greenery. It’s soaked in ocean spray, windswept by the kind of wind that has touched thousands of years of history and love stories. So in every image you see I hope that even just a piece Ireland’s unique lushness is conveyed because it truly is stunning and deserves the accolades it receives.

We focused our time on two primary locations with two different gowns - both designed by Eva Lendel. The groom was outfitted in a traditional Irish tartan suit that I’m pretty sure encapsulates the entire vision of an Irish wedding in a single piece of clothing. As for the two locations, one was cliffside outlooking O'brien's tower and the other along a bridge that overlooked Doonagore Castle. Both were beautiful in their own right.

And the paper goods that accompanied this celebration? Raw edge, neutral tones, black and white imagery, and chic vibes abounding. I’ll save my words and let you see for yourself below.

If you are reading this and planning to elope in Ireland or celebrate with a wedding in Ireland… it would be an honor to connect with you.
